Page Speed Optimization

Looking to learn more about page speed optimization, why it’s important for your website and how I can help?

Then you’re in luck 😎

Below we’re going to go over the importance of fast loading websites, how a slow speed negatively affects your business, and how I am able to make your website lightning fast 🔥

Why Page Speed Matters

Your website speed is one of most important factors in determining if it’s a success, or a distant memory as your visitors leave for something speedier – if it’s even a memory at all.

A study by Neil Patel that shows 40% of the people surveyed would leave a website if it took more than 3 seconds to load.

Another study by Portent shows that a 5 second load time converts 3 times LESS than a website that loads in 1 second.

This means every extra second it takes for your website to load is a potential loss of traffic, signups, revenue, etc.

The Google Page Experience also shows us that speed is an important factor in your website’s ranking, which directly effects the amount of traffic your website receives from the search engine.

For every second faster that a website loads, the conversion rate improves by 17%, according to this study by Bidnamic.

And when over half of all mobile users admit to abandoning a page based solely on its slow loading time, you can start to piece together how a fast loading website greatly affects your ability to have a successful website.

Google itself shows that a 0-1.8s loading time is fast while 1.8-3.0 is considered moderate.

Important? Absolutely.

Don’t be a Beavis, Butthead.

Page Speed Optimization for WordPress®

So what can WordPress® website owners like you and I do to make our website faster?

Luckily for us, there’s a lot we can do to make our websites faster.

The most impactful elements we can work on controlling are below.

Optimized images

This means resizing those 3000px wide images, converting the jpg/png files you have to webp, lazy loading your images and making sure the appropriate width and height attributes are included in the HTML.

Minify CSS, HTML, and JavaScript

This means your website that typically has 100 CSS files due to the 30+ plugins you have installed will need to be optimized for faster delivery.

Use a CDN

This means that no matter where in the world they are compared to your hosting servers, a content delivery network helps your website deliver the content your visitors at a faster rate.

Remove Render-Blocking JS and CSS

This means all of the CSS and JS files that are required for your website’s style and functionality that typically need to load before the page itself even begins to show to the visitor get minified and deferred.

Additional Optimization Tips

There’s also a variety of other edits you can make to your website that will help your page speed and overall website performance.

  • Choose a high quality host – There’s no sense in building your house on a weak foundation, so choose the right WordPress optimized hosting can make all the difference in your website speed.
  • Reduce the amount of theme and plugin bloat – Choosing a well built and well maintained theme will go a long way in helping your WordPress page speed, as will removing unoptimized and unnecessary plugins.
  • Enable a cache solution – Saving and minifying your website content makes new page loads faster for your visitors because they’re not requesting your database dozens or even hundreds of times.
  • Lazy loading your images – Allowing your website to load faster by only loading the images in the viewport decreases your TTFB score which increases your page speed scores.

I Can Help Make Your Page Speed Better

If you’ve got this far and the thought of doing this all manually sounds overwhelming, I’ve got your back.

Updating and optimizing WordPress websites has been part of my day to day life as a freelancer for dozens of years, and in the past 5 years I’ve also done this type of work full time at WordPress agencies.

Here’s a few examples of websites I’ve optimized so you can see what is possible for your website when it’s left in my capable hands 😎
